adding some bits to this whole thing
1 in the next update consider having a script named smartgui wired to
run the smart --gui commandline (aunt tilly factor)

2 if a channel is unavailible ghost it (of course if its a network
channel you may want to raise a flag)
i would say don't do a full disable (network may come up)

3 sometimes smart is well named (solving deps from a bare directory!)
