I have some plans for a text format that allows mapping 
file paths <-> packages very quickly, without having to
parse all the file list.

I haven't had time to take the idea further, but if I receive
enough pressure on it, it could be made real. It would
greatly improve the processing speed of any tool that needs
that kind of mapping.
