Smart freezes

Was using 'smart --gui' on SuSE 10.0.  Again got an occurrence of
a smart "freeze" during a many-many package update -- the screen
that follows the download screen stopped changing.  This time I
knew smart processing was incomplete - only a few of the packages
had been handled.  I waited an hour, then issued 'kill -9' --
nothing else had any affect on the smart session.

This is the *third* time for me that smart on SuSE 10.0 has frozen
while "installing" the packages it has just downloaded.  I'm more
interested in upgrading my system than in trying out betas.  Back
to using apt-get for upgrading from package repositories.
