Should be noted that mirrors.kernel.org does an awful job at mirroring
SUSE Linux.

For factory, you should try to use ftp.gwdg.de or ftp4.gwdg.de, they're
the primary mirror:

smart channel --add factory type=rpm-md \
ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/opensuse/distribution/SL-OSS-factory/inst-source/suse

And add ftp4.gwdg.de as a mirror for ftp.gwdg.de (ftp4 is usually faster):
smart mirror --add ftp://ftp.gwdg.de ftp://ftp4.gwdg.de

If it's too slow, add a mirror for kernel.org:
smart mirror --add ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/opensuse \
http://mirrors.kernel.org/opensuse
