Configuration is in readonly mode error

hi everybody,

i'm new to smart but as far as i can tell, it seems to be a very cool
software. as i'd like to be using it for a software of mine, i was
wondering why the error message named in the subject of this email:
'Configuration is in readonly mode error' is displayed everytime i
try to execute:

smart channel -y --add some-channel type=rpm-md ...

with popen() from my python script.

as i checked the code, i found out that smart is checking if the
smart data dir is writable and as i'm running my code as root, this
should be no problem, but as a matter of fact it is.

is there a way to solve this easily?

thanks in advance

best regards

lukas
