Keeping files downloaded by Smart

i wanted to do the same and came across a tip in a forum

using 

smart config --set remove-packages=true

did the trick for me. the packages downloaded to /var/lib/smart/packages are 
not removed afdter installation.

it would be a real blessing to have these kind of options documented somewhere 
( hint, hint  ;-) )
