smart-beta-0.50rc1-4.guru.suse101 corrupted channels

I installed smart-beta-0.50rc1-4.guru.suse101 on opensuse 10.1, ran
smart update and everything was fine. Then I decided to disable some
channels (I had them all enabled): ran smart channel --edit, added the
line "disabled = yes" to some of them, saved and ran smart update again.

This time smart complained about syntax errors. Weird. smart channel
--edit again and this is what I get in many channels (but not all):
