Have you check your proxy logs to see if Smart is sending the correct information?

The data is stored correctly. When you get it with --show it displays double
backslashes because of output formatting, but in fact the data is stored as one
single backslash.

Please, either check your proxy logs. If you can't, try installing pycurl
(python-curl).
