[issue233] PATCH */process hassub cleanup

This is another very minor cleanup.  A parent and it's children can share a
protected variable.  The _hassub in progress.py makes the __hassub variable in
interfaces/*/progress.py unnecessary.

This patch will make the api for other interfaces easier.
