How to know which files have errors

Grant & Mauricio,

I could find some time to follow your suggestions.
I did smart channels --show which clarified a lot.
Using smart --gui (Starting with the presented bunch of errors)
I did Edit -> channels and repaired the culprit which had ttp instead of
http. And Mauricio you're right. The the three files have html code, not
xml.
My questions are:
[1] How can I repair the database?
[2] where do I find the correct xml files as I assume I don't have to
write them by hand?
[3] Which distribution gave I get the html coded files? (I update smart
using FC7 but I'm in the process of switching to Ubuntu 7.10 because
Fedora is very sluggish with updating).
