slackware dependency resolution

does it work in slackware, even if the packages don't have a
"slackware-required" file with the list of dependencies in it?
how?

I am asking it, because I want to build my own distro based on slackware (like
thousand others... ;-)) and look for the perfect package manager to overcome
this (only) bad thing of slackware: updates and upgrades

the other option would be slapt-get with packages containing the former said
file...
