Please check ig you have python-curl installed and if that's the case
check if smart also crashes once you uninstall python-curl (or pycurl
or whatever suse calls this package). If it does not crash...

...we should really get the patch for curl commited upstream (see
attachment, Gustavo is the author, we spent some time debugging it
together).
