There is not really a way of *hiding* the menu, so
no way of showing it either. Sounds like a GTK+ bug.
(like the earlier Glib 2.24 multi-threading bug...)

Does `pygtk-demo` have any of the same problems ?

If so: "Doctor, it hurts when I run rawhide" ;-)
