n3npq and I have investigated a little further. The status at present is that the "segmentation fault" seems to have been a database problem resolved by n3npq's suggestion:<BR>
<BR>
>Perhaps cache inconsistency though, try<BR>
>  rm -v /var/lib/rpm/__db*<BR>
>and see whether that cures.<BR>

It seems I do not need the packages that caused the "segmentation faults" and "smart fix" finds no problems without them:
