How do I reset smart --gui to a "known state" ?

Using smart --gui 0.42 on SuSE 10.0.

Sometimes (after I've been doing other things with smart) when I
click on the magnifying_glass icon in the toolbar and type in a
package name in the 'Search:' entry field, then click on the
magnifying_glass icon to the right of that entry field, smart
shows me a blank panel; the status line at the bottom of the
smart window still says "No interesting upgrades available".

But I was __not__ trying to update the package whose name I typed
in -- I was only trying to check which version was installed,
vs. which versions were available in the various repositories.

When I encounter this situation, I close smart and then launch it
again. Then smart search *does* display on the panel the info
I am looking for. Is there some way how I can restore smart to
a "known state" *without* having to re-launch it ?

Thanks, mikus
