How to get rid of erraneous "pyhton gtk missing" and other errors?!

Hello list,

I've searched the net, but I haven't yet found a solution to this problem
(only other people who have the same problem):

I'm using openSUSE Factory, and from one day to another my smart --gui doesn't
start anymore, it simply shows the message:

error: System has no support for gtk python interface

Which is wrong, as I have installed:
smart-0.42-5.guru.suse101 at x86_64
python-gtk-2.8.2-21 at x86_64
gtk2-2.8.10-50 at x86_64
python-cairo-1.0.2-14 at x86_64
python-curl-7.15.4.2-3.1 at x86_64
...

These are the current versions from openSUSE Factory and the Guru RPMs, I also
tried downgrading to other versions, but to no avail. I also completely
erased /var/lib/smart.

The last entries of a "strace smart --gui" show quite a lot errors when trying
to open python-cairo stuff.

A few days later smart suddenly showed the next erraneous behaviour (may be
completely unrelated):
When doing an "update", smart (the shell, obviously) doesn't recognize new
packages in the channels anymore, though they are definitely on the servers.
This goes even on my local package directory.

Instead I get the following error for most of my channels:

Fetching information for 'Guru: Additional packages for SUSE 10.1'...
-> http://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/misc/suser-guru/rpm/10.1/media.1/media

packages
############################################### [ 32%]
error: Invalid package file format. Invalid header found.

As I said before, I already tried reinstalling and completely deleting the
smart stuff, but I can't get it to work anymore.

Do I have to return to SUSE's gruesome ZEN/ZMD/ZYPP-Package-manager? Please
no ;-)!!!!
