[issue78] --gui crashes on fc4 - Issue 11 redux

I'm having the same problem addressed in issue 11...

python2.4: Objects/stringobject.c:105: PyString_FromString: Assertion `str !=
((void *)0)' failed.

I have python-2.4.1-2 and smart-0.41-24.rhfc4.at installed and have modified
/etc/ld.so.conf to...

include /usr/lib
include ld.so.conf.d/*.conf

/usr/lib/libpython2.4.so exists and is linked to libpython2.4.so.1.0

/usr/lib/libexpat.so exists and is linked to libexpat.so.0.5.0

yum reports no update match for libexpat.so.  Any thoughts?
