As posted on issue11, test the command bellow, and check to see if you get the
very same behavior:

LD_PRELOAD=/usr/X11R6/lib/libexpat.so.0 python -c "import pyexpat"
python: Objects/stringobject.c:105: PyString_FromString: Assertion `str !=
((void *)0)' failed.
Aborted (core dumped)

Since it looks like a library problem on Fedora, and a workaround has already
been provided on this tracker, maybe you should check Smart mailing list or
Fedora mailing list for better explanations on how to solve this issue.
