sudden problem

Hi,
I got an suddenly an error while starting smart of which the end of the
trace-back is:

    data = input.read(BLOCKSIZE)

EOFError: compressed file ended before the logical end-of-stream was
detected

As all calls are from program files I cannot see which data-file is the
culprit and I have insufficient knowledge of smart to solve this but I
use smart daily and don't want to revert to yum. 
smart version:0.42-39.fc5.at. (My repo's gave this as the latest
version).
Linux: 2.6.18-1.2239.fc5 #1 SMP Fri Nov 10 12:51:06 EST 2006 x86_64.
I tried to make a new channels directory (: "mv channels > channels.old;
mkdir channels"). But that didn't work. I hope somebody can help me
out.
