Sun java dependencies

Hello,

My distro is Suse 10.3. I have installed JDK-6 (which includes jre) from Sun 
website. Now I'd like to remove old java (version 5), but new java installed 
from Sun is not recognized by Smart and so it insist on claiming that 
OpenOffice suit depends on version 5. Is it possible to instruct smart to 
recognize a package installed manually? (because no repo available from Sun). 
I suppose there is a database to manage packages, but ignore all about it.
