Problem with Suse 11.1 smart install

When I attempt to

$ smart channel
 (or just about anything else)
I get the following:

/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/smart/plugins/zyppchannelsync.py:22:
DeprecationWarning: the md5 module is deprecated; use hashlib instead
  import md5
error: Configuration is in readonly mode.

Can I fix this?
