It's not possible to make Smart understand a remote FTP or HTTP directory
without any repository information. You could make your own script to mirror the
directory locally, then use it as Smart source to update your packages.
As of your requirement to add this kind of support, it's not practical, since we
could get the file lists, but to have the depencency informations we would need
to download all the files no matter what. So it's better for you to have some
way to mirror the directory (with rsync, for example) so that Smart can read the
data locally.
