Hmmm, most segfaults wrto rpm tools are from data in an rpmdb.

Does "rpm -qa -vv" segfault? That command will check SHA1 digests for  
all headers in an rpmdb.

Otherwise some hint of what is segfaultin, perhpas by using strace,  
is what is needed.
